Yama The Seeker- Death In Its Many Guises

Is Death a friend
Or is Death a foe?
All is clear
When it's time to go

Yama the Indian god of death, and his ally The Grim Reaper, are partners in the game of death. They travel far, and they travel wide, collecting souls, whether it be with a noose or a scythe. And their presence is the one certainty, which binds us all.

But can death ever be negotiated with? Could a simple bride ever outwit it? Is there ever life after death's touch? And can death take a joke?

Join storytellers Peter Chand and Chris Lowe on an Indo/European journey, and walk alongside Lord Yama and The Grim Reaper.

Chris Lowe:
Chris who is born and bred in Birmingham, has been involved with the British folk scene for over forty years as a singer and performer. He has been storytelling professionally for more than ten years, but as a child was taken around his primary school by his teachers, and asked to tell stories to other pupils. He has a very engaging style of telling, and specialises in ghost stories and unusual tales. He has collaborated many times with Peter, and this summer they performed as the Brum-Jabi Brothers at the Storytelling Garden in Grasmere Cumbria.

Peter Chand:
Peter's family originate from the Punjab, India, and arrived in Britain in the late 1950's. He has been storytelling for the last six years, and specialises in Indian folk stories, which he takes to schools, festivals, and storytelling venues nationwide. He uses humour in his telling, and firmly believes that a message travels further when fuelled by laughter. In February 2006, he will be performing in the Netherlands, telling his stories in different venues, including a floating storytelling boat!

Admission £3.50 (£2.50 children), or get a day ticket for £10
